Feng Fu – The Ice Healing Therapy (Wind Mansion)

What & Where is Feng Fu?

Feng Fu (“Wind Mansion”) is an acupuncture point located at the base of the skull, just below the bony ridge at the top of the neck, centered above the spine. It’s near vital structures—the brain stem, upper spinal cord, supporting muscles/tendons, and major vessels/airway.
In acupuncture, Feng Fu is a “Window of the Sky” point: a key channel for communication between the mind and the body.

Why Use Ice Here?

When tissues are irritated or inflamed, cooling can reduce swelling, relieve pressure, and ease discomfort. Ice constricts local blood vessels briefly, which may calm irritated tissues and modulate pain signals—a simple, drug-free way to get short-term relief for some people.

Step-by-Step: Feng Fu Ice Method

Goal: gentle relief and reset
Total time: start with 10 minutes (max 20 minutes)

  1. Prepare the ice
    • Put a few cubes in a small zipper bag. Wrap with a thin cloth (never place ice directly on skin).
  2. Position
    • Sit or lie on your side. Tilt the chin slightly forward to expose the base of the skull.
    • Place the wrapped ice on the Feng Fu point (midline hollow below the skull ridge).
  3. Time
    • Try 10 minutes first. If helpful and skin is fine, you can experiment up to 20 minutes.
    • Gently hold in place; avoid pressing hard.
  4. Aftercare
    • Remove the ice, pat dry, and keep the neck warm (scarf/hoodie).
    • Notice any changes in pain, tension, or mood over the next hour.

Frequency: Start once daily or 3–4×/week. Allow the skin to fully warm before any repeat on the same day.
